Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for controlling wide LAG and ECMP in a network. At the ingress edge of the network, a switch can identify packets as LAG or ECMP packets, and allow them to be forwarded through the switch fabric using multiple output ports or paths.
Claims21
A switch, comprising:
- an input buffer to store a received packet;
- and
- a multi-path control logic block coupled to the input buffer and to:
- determine that the received packet is allowed to be forwarded via multiple output ports;
- produce a randomized result based on one or more fields of the packet's header;
- and
- select, based on the randomized result, an output port for forwarding the packet.

A method, comprising:
- storing, in an input buffer, a received packet;
- determining, by a multi-path control logic block coupled to the input buffer, that the received packet is allowed to be forwarded via multiple output ports;
- producing a randomized result based on one or more fields of the packet's header;
- and
- selecting, based on the randomized result, an output port for forwarding the packet.
2 more elements
A network system, comprising a number of interconnected switches, wherein a respective switch comprises:
- an input buffer to store a received packet;
- and
- a multi-path control logic block coupled to the input buffer and to:
- determine that the received packet is allowed to be forwarded via multiple output ports;
- produce a randomized result based on one or more fields of the packet's header;
- and
- select, based on the randomized result, an output port for forwarding the packet.
