Abstract
Provided are devices and methods for preventing an episode of incontinence in an individual in need thereof. The devices comprise a sensor and a stimulator electrode that can be implanted into the body of the individual. Once the device is implanted in the individual, the sensor of the device senses a parameter that is associated with a response from the individual that is intended to prevent an episode of incontinence. Then, the device provides an electrical stimulation using the electrode that, together with the response, helps to prevent the episode of incontinence.

(canceled)
A system for preventing incontinence, the system comprising:
- an implantable sensor configured to detect signals indicative of an episode of incontinence;
- at least one implantable stimulator electrode configured to apply electrical stimulation in a pelvic region of a patient;
- a processor;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium including software configured to cause the processor to:
- cause the at least one implantable stimulator electrode to provide the electrical stimulation upon:
- determining, using a trained classifier, the signals are associated with a stress incontinent event;
- or
- manual activation by the patient;
- and
- determining a stimulation pattern for the electrical stimulation based on a control policy.
A system for preventing incontinence, the system comprising:
- an implantable sensor configured to detect signals indicative of a patient's effort to prevent an episode of incontinence;
- at least one implantable stimulator electrode configured to apply electrical stimulation in a pelvic region of a patient;
- a processor;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium including software configured to cause the processor to:
- determine, using a trained classifier, when the signals are associated with a stress incontinent event;
- determine a stimulation pattern based on the trained classifier and a real-time clock scheduler;
- and
- cause the at least one implantable stimulator electrode to provide the electrical stimulation according to the stimulation pattern.
