Minimization of the consumption of data processing resources in an electronic transaction processing system via selective premature settlement of products transacted thereby based on a series of related products

A system comprising:

• a processor;
• a non-transitory memory communicatively coupled with the processor, the memory storing instructions, that when executed, cause the processor to:
• identify, automatically by a processor, data, stored in a database coupled with the processor, indicative of an unexpired financial instrument in which traders can acquire a position, characterized by a term and a date upon which the financial instrument will expire and be settled closing any positions therein, for settlement prior to the expiration;
• derive, by the processor, a final settlement price for the identified unexpired financial instrument in advance of the expiration thereof, the deriving compensating for the extent to which the deriving is occurring prior to the expiration of the identified unexpired financial instrument and based on data indicative of two or more other financial instruments currently available for trading and having consecutive terms, each less than the term of the identified unexpired financial instrument, defining consecutive expirations, the last of which expires when the identified unexpired financial instrument expires;
• and
• settle, by the processor based on the derived final settlement price, the unexpired identified financial instrument prior to the expiration thereof, wherein the data indicative thereof is removed from the database reducing an amount of data stored therein and preventing traders from acquiring new positions therein.

An apparatus for reducing an amount of data stored in an order book database, the apparatus comprising a processor and a memory coupled therewith, the memory storing computer executable instructions operative to cause the processor to:

• identify, automatically by a processor, data, stored in a database coupled with the processor, indicative of an unexpired financial instrument in which traders can acquire a position, characterized by a term and a date upon which the financial instrument will expire and be settled closing any positions therein, for settlement prior to the expiration;
• derive, by the processor, a final settlement price for the identified unexpired financial instrument in advance of the expiration thereof, the deriving compensating for the extent to which the deriving is occurring prior to the expiration of the identified unexpired financial instrument and based on data indicative of two or more other financial instruments currently available for trading and having consecutive terms, each less than the term of the identified unexpired financial instrument, defining consecutive expirations, the last of which expires when the identified unexpired financial instrument expires;
• and
• settle, by the processor based on the derived final settlement price, the unexpired identified financial instrument prior to the expiration thereof, wherein the data indicative thereof is removed from the database reducing an amount of data stored therein and preventing traders from acquiring new positions therein.
