Acetabular prosthesis systems and surgical methods

An acetabular cup system, configured to be secured to a pelvis, the acetabular cup system comprising:

• an acetabular cup comprising:
• a bone engaging surface;
• an articulating surface;
• and
• a plurality of lobed fastener apertures extending from a first opening at the articulating surface to a second opening at the bone engaging surface;
• and
• a plurality of bone fasteners insertable through the lobed fastener apertures to secure the acetabular cup to the pelvis;
• wherein each of the plurality of fastener apertures comprises:
• a first aperture configured to receive a first bone fastener of the plurality of bone fasteners;
• a second aperture intersecting with the first aperture and configured to receive a second bone fastener of the plurality of bone fasteners;
• and
• the first aperture and the second aperture are generally equally sized.

An acetabular cup system configured to be secured to a pelvis, the acetabular cup system comprising:

• an acetabular cup comprising:
• a bone engaging surface;
• an articulating surface;
• and
• a plurality of lobed fastener apertures;
• and
• a plurality of bone fasteners insertable through the lobed fastener apertures to secure the acetabular cup to the pelvis;
• and
• wherein each of the plurality of fastener apertures comprises:
• a central aperture extending from a first opening at the articulating surface to a second opening at the bone engaging surface and configured to receive a first bone fastener of the plurality of bone fasteners;
• and
• at least one aperture lobe extending from a third opening at the articulating surface to a fourth opening at the bone engaging surface and configured to receive a second bone fastener of the plurality of bone fasteners;
• wherein the first opening and the third opening intersect, and the second opening and the fourth opening do not intersect.
