Abstract
Modular IOL systems including a base and a lens, wherein the lens includes fixed and actuatable tabs for connection to the base. The modular IOL allows for the lens to be adjusted or exchanged while leaving the base in place, either intra-operatively or post-operatively. Drug delivery capabilities and/or sensing capabilities may be incorporated into the base. Injector devices may be used to facilitate placement of the base and the lens sequentially or simultaneously into the eye.

-30. (canceled)
A device configured for insertion in an eye, the device comprising:
- a base, including:
- a center hole;
- a pair of haptics extending from the base;
- and
- a recessed groove defining a horizontal plane, wherein the recessed groove includes an upper rim and a lower rim that are configured to receive a tab portion of a lens, wherein the upper rim and the lower rim extend continuously around a perimeter of the center hole, and wherein the upper rim and the lower rim are respectively angled relative to the horizontal plane to facilitate insertion of the tab portion of the lens into the recessed groove.
An intra-ocular lens (IOL) comprising:
- a base, including:
- a center hole;
- a pair of curved haptics extending from the base;
- and
- a recessed groove defining a horizontal plane, wherein the recessed groove includes an upper rim and a lower rim, wherein the upper rim and the lower rim extend continuously around a perimeter of the center hole, and wherein the upper rim and the lower rim are respectively angled relative to the horizontal plane;
- and
- a lens, including:
- an optic portion;
- and
- at least one tab portion configured for insertion into the recessed groove.
