## Abstract

Methods of implanting docking devices for prosthetic valves at a native heart valve include positioning a distal end of a delivery catheter into a first chamber of a heart, advancing a tubular body of a docking device from within the delivery catheter so that the distal end of the tubular body is advanced between native valve leaflets and positioned in a second chamber of the heart. The methods further include inserting a coil into a lumen of the docking device so that the tubular body adopts a configuration, releasing a proximal end of the docking device in the first chamber, inserting a replacement valve in an inner space of the docking device, and radially expanding the replacement valve until there is a retention force between the replacement valve and the docking device to hold the replacement valve in a stable position in the native valve.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of implanting a docking device for a prosthetic valve at a native heart valve, comprising:
obtaining the docking device comprising:
a coiled body having an exterior surface, an upper region, a central region, and a lower region, and
a high friction material covering at least a portion of the exterior surface of the coiled body, wherein the high friction material has a higher coefficient of friction relative to portions of the exterior surface of the coiled body that are not covered by the high friction material;
positioning a distal end of a delivery catheter into a first chamber of a heart;
advancing the coiled body, from within the delivery catheter, between leaflets of the native heart valve so that the lower region of the coiled body is positioned in a second chamber of the heart and the central region coils around the leaflets of the native heart valve; and
releasing the upper region of the coiled body in the first chamber of the heart.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising positioning a prosthetic valve within the central region and radially expanding the prosthetic valve, wherein an outer surface of the prosthetic valve engages the high friction material.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the outer surface of the prosthetic valve comprises a material configured to increase a retention force between the docking device and the prosthetic valve.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the high friction material covers at least a portion of the central region of the coiled body.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the lower region of the coiled body is not covered by the high friction material.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the upper region is not covered by the high friction material.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the high friction material includes a braided layer.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the high friction material covers an entirety of the central region.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein advancing the coiled body between the leaflets of the native heart valve so that the central region coils around the leaflets further comprises:
coiling the central region around the leaflets in a first configuration having turns with a larger diameter; and
adjusting the central region to a second configuration where the turns have a smaller diameter.

### Claim 10

A method of implanting a docking device for a prosthetic valve at a native heart valve, comprising:
obtaining a docking device comprising:
a coiled body having an exterior surface, a proximal region, a central region, and a distal region, and
a high friction material covering at least a portion of the central region of the coiled body, wherein the high friction material has an outer surface having a higher coefficient of friction relative to portions of the exterior surface of the coiled body that are not covered by the high friction material;
positioning a distal end of a delivery catheter into an atrial chamber of a heart;
advancing the coiled body out of the delivery catheter so that the distal region of the coiled body becomes positioned in a ventricle chamber of the heart is positioned around the leaflets of the native heart valve; and
releasing the proximal region of the coiled body in the atrial chamber of the heart.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10 wherein the coiled body is contained in a straightened configuration in the delivery catheter prior to the step of positioning.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, further comprising positioning a prosthetic valve within the central region and radially expanding the prosthetic valve, wherein an outer surface of the prosthetic valve engages the high friction material.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The method of claim 12, wherein the outer surface of the prosthetic valve comprises a material configured to increase a retention force between the docking device and the prosthetic valve.
