Steam ablation device for treatment of menorrhagia

A method of treating a patient, the method comprising:

• introducing a multi-layer medium, in a contracted state, into a patient;
• delivering a fluid into an internal cavity formed by the medium;
• generating heat in vivo within the medium to vaporize the fluid within the medium to expand the medium in vivo;
• and
• expelling vaporized fluid, via a porosity formed in the medium by expanding the medium, to expose a treatment site within the patient to the vaporized fluid.

A method of treating a patient, the method comprising:

• introducing a multi-layer balloon, in a contracted state, into a patient;
• delivering a fluid through an outlet located inside the balloon into an internal cavity formed by the balloon, wherein the outlet is fully encompassed by an inward-facing layer of the balloon and wherein delivering the fluid into the internal cavity comprises overcoming a pressure threshold of the inward-facing layer of the balloon to expand the balloon;
• generating heat in vivo within the balloon to vaporize the fluid within the balloon;
• and
• expelling vaporized fluid, via a porosity formed in the balloon by expanding the balloon, to expose a treatment site within the patient to the vaporized fluid.

A system for treating a patient, the system comprising:

• means for introducing a multi-layer medium, in a contracted state, into a patient;
• means for delivering a fluid into an internal cavity formed by the medium;
• means for generating heat in vivo within the medium to vaporize the fluid within the medium to expand the medium in vivo;
• and
• means for expelling vaporized fluid, via a porosity formed in the medium by expanding the medium, to expose a treatment site within the patient to the vaporized fluid.
