Self-Holding Screw Head

A fastener insertion system comprising:

• a fastener having a threaded head and a shaft extending from the threaded head;
• and
• a fastener holder with an inner surface defining an internal bore, the inner surface including a threaded end portion surface with a crest that flares outward from a first end of the threaded end portion to a second end of the threaded end portion at a free end of the fastener holder, the threaded end portion being engageable with the threaded head of the fastener,
• wherein the threaded head of the fastener is engageable with the threaded end portion of the fastener holder from the free end of the fastener holder.

A surgical system comprising:

• a fastener having a threaded head and a shaft extending from the threaded head, the threaded head extending from a free end of the threaded head to a base end of the threaded head opposite the free end adjacent to the shaft;
• and
• a fastener holder with an outer surface and an inner surface opposite the outer surface defining an internal bore, the inner surface including a threaded surface portion extending from an end of the fastener holder, the threaded surface portion being engageable with the threaded head of the fastener,
• wherein the threaded head of the fastener is engageable with the threaded surface portion of the fastener holder from the end of the fastener holder, and
• wherein an entirety of the outer surface of the fastener holder is non-parallel to a root of a threaded surface of the threaded head of the fastener.
