User-Serviceable Device

A device, comprising:

• a chassis defining a rear surface;
• a kickstand rotatably coupled to the chassis, wherein the kickstand in a closed position covers a first portion of the rear surface and in an open position exposes the first portion;
• a rear cover removably positioned over a second portion of the rear surface;
• a release mechanism concealed by the kickstand when in the closed position and accessible when the kickstand is in the open position;
• and
• wherein actuation of the release mechanism causes the rear cover to move in a first direction substantially parallel to the rear surface and subsequently move in a second direction away from the rear surface.

A device, comprising:

• a housing defining an interior volume accessible through a rear opening;
• a removable panel configured to cover the rear opening;
• a retention system configured to secure the removable panel to the housing;
• and
• a release system configured to, upon activation, cause the removable panel to translate in a plane parallel to the rear opening to disengage the retention system and then move perpendicular to the rear opening.

A device, comprising:

• a chassis;
• a rear cover removably attachable to the chassis;
• an engagement mechanism that releasably couples the rear cover to the chassis;
• and
• an ejection system configured to automatically displace the rear cover away from the chassis when the engagement mechanism is released, wherein the ejection system provides sequential motion comprising lateral displacement followed by perpendicular separation.
