Abstract
A digital signal processing (DSP)-based serializer-deserializer (SERDES) includes a first filter configured to mitigate inter-symbol interference (ISI) attributed to dispersion associated with a long-reach transmission medium. The SERDES includes a second filter configured to shape the ISI. The SERDES includes also includes a third filter coupled in parallel with the second filter and configured to reduce ISI attributed to reflections associated to both near-zero delays and long delays.
Claims20
A device comprising:
- a feed-forward equalizer (FFE) configured to process an input signal to reduce an inter-symbol interference (ISI), the ISI being associated with channel dispersion through a transmission medium;
- a reflection canceller coupled to the FFE and configured to cancel reflections associated with the ISI;
- and
- a noise-shaping filter coupled to an output of the reflection canceller and configured to change a spectral shape of the ISI after reflection cancellation.

A system comprising:
- a feed-forward equalizer (FFE) configured to process an input signal to reduce an inter-symbol interference (ISI) associated with channel dispersion through a transmission medium;
- a plurality of reflection canceller stages coupled in series, each reflection canceller stage comprising a quantizer filter, a delay match circuit, and a summing circuit, wherein the plurality of reflection canceller stages is configured to iteratively cancel reflections associated with the ISI;
- and
- a noise-shaping filter coupled to an output of the plurality of reflection canceller stages and configured to change a spectral shape of the ISI after reflection cancellation.

A method comprising:
- processing an input signal through a feed-forward equalizer (FFE) to reduce an inter-symbol interference (ISI) associated with channel dispersion through a transmission medium;
- iteratively cancelling reflections associated with the ISI using a plurality of reflection canceller stages coupled in series, each reflection canceller stage comprising a quantizer filter, a delay match circuit, and a summing circuit;
- changing a spectral shape of the ISI after reflection cancellation using a noise-shaping filter coupled to an output of the plurality of reflection canceller stages;
- and
- adjusting a phase of a signal output from the noise-shaping filter using an interpolator based on a phase adjustment signal.
