Abstract
A hand sanitization system, a sanitization machine, and hand coverings containing markings for use with the sanitization machine are disclosed. The hand sanitization machine is capable of sanitizing hand coverings that were traditionally disposed of after one use. The hand coverings may contain indicators that signal when they have been sterilized.

A method of sanitizing a hand covering comprising:
- inserting a hand covering on a user into a sterilizing machine for use in an ultraviolet (UV) sterilization process, the sterilizing machine comprising an enclosure and a UV light source;
- basing the power output of the UV light source at least in part on information obtained from a machine-readable mark on the hand covering;
- beginning a sterilization process for the hand covering using the sterilizing machine;
- detecting, after the sterilization process is complete, an event with a sensor that indicates that the hand covering should be changed;
- and
- outputting, to the user of the hand covering, a signal based at least in part on the detection of the event that indicates that the hand covering should be changed.
