Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system comprising a distributed unit (DU) configured to generate sounding reference signal (SRS)-based beams, and a remote unit (RU) communicatively coupled with the DU over a fronthaul, wherein the RU is configured to generate demodulation reference signal (DMRS)-based beams and perform digital beamforming for an uplink using the DMRS-based beams in combination with the SRS-based beams. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims20
A remote unit (RU) comprising:
- a processing system including a processor;
- and
- a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
- generating demodulation reference signal (DMRS)-based beams;
- and
- performing digital beamforming for an uplink using the DMRS-based beams in combination with sounding reference signal (SRS)-based beams, wherein the DMRS-based beams are generated based on DMRS channel estimates.
A method comprising:
- generating beam weights by a processor of a remote unit (RU);
- and
- performing, by the RU, digital beamforming for an uplink of a network based on the beam weights and other beam weights generated by a distributed unit (DU), wherein the beam weights are generated based on channel estimates.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
- obtaining demodulation reference signal (DMRS)-based beams;
- and
- performing digital beamforming for an uplink using the DMRS-based beams and sounding reference signal (SRS)-based beams, wherein the DMRS-based beams are obtained based on DMRS channel estimates.
