Abstract
Filled polyols and processes for their production. The filled polyols include a carrier polyol and polymer particles dispersed in the carrier polyol. The carrier polyol includes a polyether polyol having a functionality of 2 to 6, an OH number of 20 to 120 mg KOH/g, and a poly(oxyethylene) content of at least 60% by weight, based on total weight of the polyether polyol. The polymer particles exhibit a multimodal particle size distribution.
Claims20
A filled polyol comprising:
- (a) a carrier polyol comprises a polyether polyol having a functionality of 2 to 6, an OH number of 20 to 120 mg KOH/g, and a poly(oxyethylene) content of at least 60% by weight, based on total weight of the polyether polyol, and
- (b) polymer particles dispersed in the carrier polyol,
- wherein the polymer particles exhibit a multimodal particle size distribution and the filled polyol has a solids content of 5% to 34% by weight, based on total weight of the filled polyol.
A process for preparing a polymer polyol (PMPO), comprising:
- (a) continuously introducing components comprising (i) a carrier polyol, (ii) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, (iii) a radical initiator, and (iv) a preformed stabilizer into a continuous reactor, and
- (b) continuously removing the PMPO from the continuous reactor, wherein
- (1) the carrier polyol comprises a polyether polyol having a functionality of 2 to 6, an OH number of 20 to 120 mg KOH/g, and a poly(oxyethylene) content of at least 60% by weight, based on total weight of the polyether polyol, and
- (2) the preformed stabilizer comprises a reaction product of a reaction mixture comprising (i) an ethylenically unsaturated macromer, (ii) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, (iii) a free radical initiator, (iv) a polymer control agent, and optionally (v) a diluent.
