Abstract
A handheld writing instrument which dispenses a non-aqueous pigment-based writing ink. Being based on a non-aqueous writing ink, the writing instrument is less subject to issues of ink drying due to solvent evaporation, such as build-up of dried ink on the writing ink and smearing caused by dried ink agglomerations. Due to its high-laydown characteristics, the writing instrument provides a vivid intense color impression despite the use of pigments as coloring agents.
Claims21
A handheld writing instrument comprising a non-aqueous writing ink which comprises, relative to the total weight of writing ink:
- about 5 to about 25 wt.-%, of at least one pigment,
- about 5 to about 35 wt.-% of one or more resins,
- a gelling agent comprising one or more of:
- a) a mixture of silica particles and of a fatty acid amide wax,
- b) water-insoluble cellulose nanofibers, and
- one or more solvents;
- wherein the handheld writing instrument comprises a writing tip which is configured to dispense between about 50 and about 100 mg ink per 150 m of writing line;
- wherein the writing ink has a viscosity at rest at about 20° C. of between about 15 000 cps and about 150 000 cps and a viscosity under shear at about 100 s−1 at about 20° C. of between about between about 1200 cps and about 10000 cps;
- and
- wherein the pigment has a D50 particle size of between about 80 nm and about 700 nm.
