Abstract
A drill bit including a body extending from a shank to a point angle, wherein the body includes a plurality of steps each associated with a different cutting diameter; a first groove disposed between a first pair of adjacent steps of the plurality of steps and radially inset from an outer diameter of each of the first pair of adjacent steps; and a first visual indicator disposed in the first groove.
Claims20
A drill bit comprising:
- a body extending from a shank to a point angle,
- wherein the body comprises:
- a plurality of steps each associated with a different cutting diameter;
- a first groove disposed between a first pair of adjacent steps of the plurality of steps and radially inset from an outer diameter of each of the first pair of adjacent steps;
- and
- a first visual indicator disposed in the first groove.
3 more elements
A method of boring a recess into a workpiece, the method comprising:
- moving a drill bit into a recess in a workpiece;
- with the drill bit extending into the recess, inspecting the drill bit at a location immediately adjacent to the workpiece to identify a visual indicator disposed in a groove of the drill bit at the location;
- referencing the identified visual indicator to a lookup table;
- and
- determining a diameter of the recess based on the referencing.
2 more elements
A stepped drill bit comprising:
- a shank;
- and
- a generally conical body extending from the shank to a point angle,
- wherein the generally conical body comprises:
- a plurality of sequentially larger steps arranged from the point angle to the shank, each of the steps having a cutting surface associated with a different cutting diameter;
- a first groove disposed between a first pair of adjacent steps of the plurality of sequentially larger steps and radially inset from an outer diameter of each of the first pair of adjacent steps;
- and
- a second groove disposed between a second pair of adjacent steps of the plurality of sequentially larger steps and radially inset from an outer diameter of each of the second pair of adjacent steps.
