Monitoring of unit load device and carts using wireless iot devices

A method comprising:

• tracking, by a first gateway node, movement of the asset within a functional area of the transportation facility;
• tracking, by a second gateway node, movement of the asset on vehicle within the transportation facility;
• tracking, by a third gateway node, movement of the asset being loaded into a cargo space of a transportation vehicle;
• determining an anomaly when any of the tracking movements indicate that the asset has departed from an expected path through the transportation facility;
• and
• generating a notification indicating the anomaly early during movement of the asset.

A method, comprising:

• determining, by a gateway node associated with a vehicle, movement of the vehicle at a speed above a threshold value;
• receiving, by the gateway node on a motion communication channel when the speed is above the threshold speed, a broadcasted signal including an identifier of a wireless tracking device;
• and
• determining, by the gateway node, that an asset associated with the broadcasted identifier is loaded onto the vehicle when that a received signal strength of the broadcast signal is above a threshold value.
