Configuration recommendation for management of virtual processing units

An apparatus comprising:

• a processing device operatively coupled to a memory and configured:
• to receive operational data corresponding to one or more virtual processing units over a designated time period;
• wherein the one or more virtual processing units are in a first configuration in which the one or more virtual processing units utilize resources of one or more physical processing units;
• and
• wherein the operational data comprises resource utilization data of the one or more virtual processing units over the designated time period;
• to input the operational data to a time-series model, wherein the time-series model analyzes the resource utilization data to predict future resource utilization over a future time period;
• and
• to generate, based on the predicted future resource utilization, a second configuration in which the one or more virtual processing units utilize the resources of the one or more physical processing units, wherein the second configuration is different from the first configuration.

An article of manufacture comprising a non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having stored therein program code of one or more software programs, wherein the program code when executed by at least one processing device causes said at least one processing device to perform the steps of:

• receiving operational data corresponding to one or more virtual processing units over a designated time period;
• wherein the one or more virtual processing units are in a first configuration in which the one or more virtual processing units utilize resources of one or more physical processing units;
• and
• wherein the operational data comprises resource utilization data of the one or more virtual processing units over the designated time period;
• inputting the operational data to a time-series model, wherein the time-series model analyzes the resource utilization data to predict future resource utilization over a future time period;
• and
• generating, based on the predicted future resource utilization, a second configuration in which the one or more virtual processing units utilize the resources of the one or more physical processing units, wherein the second configuration is different from the first configuration.
