Abstract
A device for delivering a predetermined volume a substance within a body cavity. The device includes: at least one predefined volume sized and shaped to contain a predetermined volume the substance; a delivery end in fluid communication with a container; and at least one valve mechanically connected to the container and configurable between an active configuration in which the valve enables delivery of a volume of the substance and an inactive configuration, in which the valve prevents delivery.
Claims20
A device for delivering a predetermined volume Vsub[ml] of a liquid substance in a body cavity of a subject, the device comprising:
- a. at least one capsule for containing the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance, wherein the substance has a predetermined mass Msub [mg] in the range of 1-1000 mg and the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] is in a range of 0.01-7 ml;
- b. a nozzle configured for placement in proximity to the body cavity,
- the nozzle being in fluid communication with the at least one capsule, the nozzle comprises an orifice, wherein the orifice has a diameter D [mm] that is in a range of 0.2-6 mm;
- c. a valve mechanically connectable to the at least one capsule, and having at least two configurations:
- (i) an active configuration in which the valve enables delivery of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance from the at least one capsule to the body cavity,
- and (ii) an inactive configuration, in which the valve prevents delivery of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance from the at least one capsule to the body cavity, wherein the valve is reconfigurable from the inactive configuration to the active configuration in a predetermined period of time, dT, in response to activation of the valve, and
- wherein the predetermined period of time dT is less than or equal to 200 ms;
- and
- d. wherein, once the valve is reconfigured from the inactive configuration to the active configuration the substance is delivered via the orifice in the nozzle into the body cavity,
- wherein the device is configured to deliver the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance and any gas through the orifice into the at body cavity, so that a release time of substantially the entirety of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance, dT deliver, is less than 500 milliseconds, and
- wherein the dT deliver is maintained less than 500 milliseconds independent of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml.] of the substance.
A device for delivering a predetermined mass Msub [mg] of a substance within a body cavity of a subject, the device comprising:
- a capsule sized and shaped for containing a predetermined mass Msub [mg] of the substance, wherein the predetermined mass Msub [mg] is in a range of 1-1000 mg;
- a nozzle configured for placement in proximity to the body cavity, the nozzle being in fluid communication with the capsule;
- the nozzle comprises an orifice, wherein the orifice has a diameter D [mm] that is in a range of 0.2-6 mm;
- a valve mechanically connectable to the capsule, having at least two configurations:
- (i) an active configuration in which the valve enables delivery of the predetermined mass Msub [mg] of the substance from the capsule to the body cavity via the nozzle;
- and, (ii) an inactive configuration, in which the valve prevents delivery of the predetermined mass Msub [mg] of the one substance from the capsule to the body cavity,
- the valve is reconfigurable from the inactive configuration to the active configuration within a predetermined period of time, dT, in response to activation of the valve, wherein the predetermined period of time dT is less than or equal to 200 ms;
- and
- wherein the predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance, once the valve is reconfigured from the inactive configuration to the active configuration, is configured to be delivered via the orifice in the nozzle within the body cavity;
- wherein the device is configured to deliver the predetermined mass Msub [mg] of the substance through the orifice into the body cavity, so that a release time of substantially the entirety of a predetermined volume Vsub [ml] of the substance, dTdeliver, is less than 500 ms,
- wherein the dTdeliver is maintained less than 500 milliseconds independent of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml],
- wherein a velocity of particles of the at least one substance, after exit from the device, is in a range of about 5 m/s to 50 m/s, and wherein at least one selected from the ratio of the predetermined volume rate dMsub/dT, dMsub/dTdeliver and any combination thereof is greater than 0.0001 ml/ms independent of the predetermined volume Vsub [ml].
