Abstract
Disclosed herein is a ceramic particle comprising a core substrate chosen from yttria-stabilized zirconia, partially stabilized zirconia, zirconium oxide, aluminum nitride, silicon nitride, silicon carbide, and cerium oxide, and a conformal coating of a sintering aid film having a thickness of less than three nanometers and covering the core substrate, and methods for producing the ceramic particle.
Claims20
A solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte comprising:
- ceramic particles comprising:
- a core substrate chosen from yttria-stabilized zirconia, partially stabilized zirconia, or cerium oxide;
- and
- a coating of a sintering aid film having a thickness of less than three nanometers and covering the core substrate.
A method of forming a solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte comprising:
- providing a core substrate within a system chosen from a fluid bed reactor, a vibrating reactor, a rotating reactor, a spatial system, and a batch reactor;
- depositing, by a cycle of atomic layer deposition, a coating of a sintering aid film comprising alumina on the core substrate to form a ceramic particle;
- and
- sintering ceramic particles including the ceramic particle.
A solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte comprising:
- ceramic particles comprising:
- a core substrate chosen from yttria-stabilized zirconia, partially stabilized zirconia, cerium oxide, aluminum nitride, silicon nitride, and silicon carbide;
- and
- a coating of a sintering aid film comprising an oxide and having a thickness of less than three nanometers and covering the core substrate.
