Barrel for hair styling appliance

A hair styling appliance comprising:

• a heater element having a ceramic substrate, wherein the ceramic substrate has a thickness and comprises a conductive track embedded within the thickness for generating heat to heat the ceramic substrate upon application of an electrical current to the conductive track;
• a temperature sensor for sensing a temperature of the heater element, wherein said temperature sensor comprises a resistive track whose resistance changes with temperature, the resistive track extending over an area of the ceramic substrate and being embedded within the thickness of the ceramic substrate, for sensing the temperature over said area of the ceramic substrate;
• and
• a control circuit for controlling heating of the heater by controlling application of electrical current to the conductive track in dependence upon the temperature over said area of the ceramic substrate sensed by the temperature sensor.
