Propagation delay compensation and interpolation filter

A method for operating an angular sensor interface, the method comprising:

• receiving analog signals from an angular position sensor coupled to a rotating object;
• generating angular position signals from the analog signals;
• and
• compensating the angular position signals for propagation delay through the angular sensor interface by:
• low-pass filtering the angular position signals to generate filtered angular position signals,
• calculating speed signals from the filtered angular position signals,
• low-pass filtering the speed signals to generate filtered speed signals,
• calculating acceleration signals from the filtered speed signals,
• low-pass filtering the acceleration signals to generate filtered acceleration signals, and
• producing compensated angular position signals from the filtered speed signals and the filtered acceleration signals.

An angular sensor interface, comprising:

• a signal processor configured to:
• receive analog signals from an angular position sensor coupled to a rotating object, and
• generate angular position signals from the analog signals;
• a first low-pass filter configured to generate filtered angular position signals from the angular position signals;
• a first differentiator configured to calculate speed signals from the filtered angular position signals;
• a second low-pass filter configured to generate filtered speed signals from the speed signals;
• a second differentiator configured to generate acceleration signals from the filtered speed signals;
• a third low-pass filter configured to generate filtered acceleration signals from the acceleration signals;
• and
• a delay compensation circuit configured to produce compensated angular position signals from the filtered speed signals and the filtered acceleration signals, wherein the compensated angular position signals are compensated for propagation delay through the angular sensor interface.
