An electronic chip and a chip assembly are described. The electronic chip comprises one or more processing cores and at least one hardware interface coupled to at least one of the one or more processing cores. At least one of the one or more processing cores implements a game engine in hardware.

- a hardware engine;
- a hardware ray trace engine configured to augment functionality of the hardware engine;
- and
- an interface coupling the hardware engine and the hardware ray race engine;
- wherein the hardware engine is configured to communicate with an external graphics processing unit (GPU) via the interface.
