Electrophoretic capsules enabling blocking of visible and non-visible wavelengths

A window, comprising:

• a first layer;
• a second layer that is substantially parallel to the first layer;
• and
• a plurality of capsules disposed between the first layer and the second layer;
• and wherein:
• the plurality of capsules comprise a functional additive comprising a negatively charged component and a positively charged component contained within each of the plurality of capsules;
• and
• the functional additive is switchable to a first state and a second state.

A system for blocking a wavelength, comprising:

• a detector capable of detecting a target wavelength bandwidth;
• a first layer connected to the detector;
• a second layer that is substantially parallel to the first layer and connected to the detector;
• and
• a plurality of capsules disposed between the first layer and the second layer;
• a surface charge-controlled layer in proximity to the first layer or the second layer, connected to the detector and configured to switch one or more of the plurality of capsules from a first state to a second state upon detection of the target wavelength bandwidth;
• and wherein:
• the plurality of capsules comprise a functional additive comprising a negatively charged component and a positively charged component contained within each of the plurality of capsules;
• the functional additive is switchable to a first state and a second state;
• and
• the functional additive absorbs the target wavelength bandwidth upon switching to the second state.
