A metal component, comprising:
- a bond coating metallurgically bonded to a substrate of the metal component by one or more of chemical vapour deposition, molten salt electrodeposition, and fusion welding, wherein the bond coating comprises one or more of zirconium, vanadium, niobium, and tantalum;
- and
- a top coating bonded to the bond coating by thermal spraying, wherein the top coating comprises one or more oxides of titanium, chromium, or silicon, or one or more carbides of tungsten or chrome.
