Mounting of external charging probe on electrostatic spray gun

A method of mounting a probe to an electrostatic spray gun, the method comprising:

• shifting a probe onto a probe mount of the electrostatic spray gun such that an elastomeric ring is biased by the probe along the probe mount and towards the electrostatic spray gun and such that a diameter of the elastomeric ring increases from a first ring diameter to a second ring diameter;
• rotating the probe relative to the electrostatic spray gun;
• and
• shifting, by the elastomeric ring, the probe away from the electrostatic spray gun such that the probe is connected to the electrostatic spray gun, wherein the diameter of the elastomeric ring decreases as the elastomeric ring shifts the probe away from the electrostatic spray gun.

An electrostatic spray gun comprising:

• a barrel;
• a handle attached to the barrel;
• a probe mount extending from the barrel, the probe mount including a mount conductive element disposed in a mount non-conductive body;
• a dynamic groove encircling the probe mount and having a first diameter at a first end of the dynamic groove and a second diameter at a second end of the dynamic groove, wherein the second diameter is larger than the first diameter;
• and
• a probe mountable to and dismountable from the probe mount, the probe including a probe conductive element disposed in a probe non-conductive body.
