Abstract
A tool (700, 800) is insertable into an interior space of a body part (400, 240) that is a part of a tool holder (300). The tool has at least one cutout part (730, 831) and may or may not have a tool passage (740), which has an opening (740b) at a tool rear end surface (710B). The cutout part includes a cutout surface (731) on a tool outer peripheral surface (712) and an opening (730b) at the tool rear end surface. By supplying a coolant from a flow inlet (450a) into the interior space of the body part, a movable member (500) is moved forwardly until a front end surface portion (530A) of the movable member sealingly abuts against the tool rear end surface, whereby coolant flows through the tool passage (if present) to a spray port near the tip of the tool.
Claims20
A tool holder configured to hold a tool, the tool having at least one cutout part and a tool coolant passage, the cutout part being defined by a cutout surface on a tool outer peripheral surface and having an opening at a tool rear end surface, the tool coolant passage having an opening in the tool end rear surface that is closer to a tool center line than the opening of the cutout part, wherein:
- the tool holder comprises a body part, a tool holding mechanism and a movable member,
- the body part has a body part inner peripheral surface, a body part front end surface, a body part interior space defined by the body part inner peripheral surface, a flow inlet and a first coolant passage that fluidly connects the flow inlet with the body part interior space, the body part interior space extending in an axial direction and having a tool insertion opening at a front end side, via which the tool is insertable into the body part interior space,
- the tool holding mechanism is configured to detachably hold the tool when the tool is inserted into the body part interior space,
- the movable member has a movable member front end surface, a movable member rear end surface, a movable member outer peripheral surface, and a through hole extending from the movable member front end surface to the movable member rear end surface, the movable member being disposed in the body part interior space so as to be movable along the body part inner peripheral surface in a state in which a gap between the movable member outer peripheral surface and the body member inner peripheral surface is sealed, and
- the movable member is configured such that, by supplying a coolant from the flow inlet into the body part interior space via the first coolant passage in a state in which the tool coolant passage of the tool, which has been inserted into the body part interior space, and the through hole of the movable member face each other, the movable member moves toward a front end side along the body part inner peripheral surface, and the movable member front end surface abuts on the tool rear end surface.
A tool holder comprising:
- a body having an inner circumferential surface, an axially-extending interior space defined by the inner circumferential surface, a coolant inlet and a first coolant passage that fluidly connects the coolant inlet with the interior space,
- a tool holding mechanism configured to detachably hold a tool when the tool is inserted into the interior space of the body, and
- a movable member having a front surface, a rear surface, an outer circumferential surface, a through hole extending through the movable member from the front surface to the rear surface, and a circumferential seal on the outer circumferential surface that sealingly contacts the inner circumferential surface of the body,
- wherein the movable member is disposed in the interior space of the body and is configured to be moved along the inner circumferential surface toward a front end of the body by supplying a coolant into the interior space via the coolant inlet and the first coolant passage so that the front surface of the movable member abuts on a rear end surface of the tool.
