Abstract
An analyte sensor comprising: an insertion tip configured for insertion below a tissue of a user, the insertion tip comprising: a working electrode comprising a sensing layer disposed thereon and a membrane layer disposed at least partially over the sensing layer; a substrate; and a counter electrode. Wherein a polymer layer comprising at least an immunosuppressant is disposed on an exterior surface of the working electrode, the substrate, or the counter electrode, the polymer layer being separate from the sensing layer and the membrane layer.
Claims22
An in vivo analyte sensor for measuring analyte levels in a bodily fluid of a user comprising:
- a first portion coupled with a sensor control unit, wherein the first portion is positionable above a surface of a skin,
- a second portion positionable below the surface of the skin, wherein the second portion is in contact with a bodily fluid and configured to measure signals indicative of analyte levels in the bodily fluid, wherein the second portion comprises electrodes connected to contact portions positioned on the first portion;
- wherein the sensor control unit comprises:
- a processor configured to determine data indicative of analyte levels and to transmit the data indicative of analyte levels to a receiver unit according to a Bluetooth communication protocol via a transmitter coupled to the processor, and
- a power supply for operating the sensor control unit;
- further wherein the electrodes of the second portion include a working electrode comprising a sensing layer disposed thereon and a membrane layer disposed at least partially over the sensing layer, wherein the sensing layer comprises an osmium-containing complex, and wherein the membrane layer comprises a polyvinylpyridine;
- a substrate;
- and
- a counter electrode,
- wherein a polymer layer comprising dexamethasone is disposed on an exterior surface of the working electrode, the substrate, or the counter electrode, the polymer layer being separate from the sensing layer and the membrane layer;
- and
- wherein the sensor control unit is configured to process factory-determined calibrated measurements that are input or stored in the sensor control unit, such that the analyte sensor is thereby factory calibrated.
The analyte sensor of claim 7, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is a glucose-responsive enzyme.
A method comprising:
- detecting signals representative of an in vivo analyte level in a bodily fluid of a user using an analyte sensor comprising:
- a first portion coupled with a sensor control unit, wherein the first portion is positionable above a surface of a skin;
- a second portion positionable below the surface of the skin, wherein the second portion is in contact with a bodily fluid and configured to measure signals indicative of analyte levels in the bodily fluid, wherein the second portion comprises electrodes connected to contact portions positioned on the first portion;
- wherein the sensor control unit comprises
- a processor configured to determine date indicative of analyte levels and to transmit the data indicative of analyte levels to a receiver unit according to a Bluetooth communication protocol via a transmitter coupled to the processor, and
- a power supply for operating the sensor control unit;
- further wherein the electrodes of the second portion include a working electrode comprising a sensing layer disposed thereon and a membrane layer disposed at least partially over the sensing layer, wherein the sensing layer comprises an osmium-containing complex, and wherein the membrane layer comprises a polyvinylpyridine;
- a substrate;
- and
- a counter electrode,
- wherein a polymer layer comprising dexamethasone is disposed on an exterior surface of the working electrode, the substrate, or the counter electrode, the polymer layer being separate from the sensing layer and the membrane layer;
- and
- wherein the sensor control unit is configured to process factory-determined calibrated measurements that are input or stored in the sensor control unit, such that the analyte sensor is thereby factory calibrated.
