Abstract
The present disclosure includes apparatuses and methods related to performing background operations in memory. A memory device can be configured to perform background operations while another memory device in a memory system and/or on a common memory module is busy performing commands received from a host coupled to the memory system and/or common memory module. An example apparatus can include a first memory device, wherein the first memory device can include an array of memory cells and a controller configured to perform a background operation on the first memory device in response to detecting a command from a host to a second memory device.
Claims20
A non-volatile dual in-line memory module (NVDIMM), comprising:
- a first memory device configured to receive a command from a host;
- a controller coupled to the first memory device, wherein the controller comprises a time calculator configured to calculate a period of time for the first memory device to complete execution of the command from the host;
- and
- a second memory device coupled to the controller and the first memory device, wherein the second memory device is configured to perform a number of background operations based on the calculated period of time.
A non-volatile dual in-line memory module (NVDIMM), comprising:
- a first memory device is configured to receive a command from a host;
- a controller coupled to the first memory device, wherein the controller comprises a time calculator configured to calculate a period of time for the first memory device to complete execution of the command from the host;
- and
- a second memory device coupled to the controller and the first memory device, wherein the second memory device is configured to:
- select which background operation to perform based on the calculated period of time;
- and
- perform the selected background operation.
A method, comprising:
- receiving a command at a first memory device from a host;
- calculating a period of time for the first memory device to complete execution of the command from the host;
- selecting what number of background operations to perform based on the calculated period of time;
- and
- performing the number of background operations at a second memory device.
