Abstract
Electrical cables and optical waveguides are disclosed as including an electrically insulative foam. The electrically insulative foam can coat at least one electrical conductor of the electrical cable. The electrically insulative foam can coat the optical fiber of the waveguide. The electrically insulative foam can also define a waveguide.
Claims23
A method of fabricating an electrical cable, comprising the step of:
- introducing a foaming agent into a molten electrically insulative material to define an infused molten electrically insulative material;
- co-extruding a pair of electrical conductors with the infused molten electrically conductive material, thereby coating the pair of electrical conductors with the infused molten electrically conductive material;
- generating pores in the infused molten electrically insulative material so as to produce a foam;
- and
- solidifying the foam.
