Abstract
Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture of valve packing apparatus and related methods. An apparatus includes a cartridge including packing components and a spring. The cartridge is dimensioned to fit in a bore of a bonnet of a valve. A retainer is disposed in an aperture of the cartridge. The retainer is removable from the aperture to release the spring to apply a predetermined compressive load to the stack of packing components.

-20. (canceled)
A method comprising:
- positioning a biasing element in a bore of a cylindrical body;
- compressing the biasing element within the cylindrical body;
- positioning a retainer pin within a slot of the cylindrical body, the retainer pin to maintain the biasing element in a compressed state;
- positioning a packing assembly within the bore of the cylindrical body when the biasing element is maintained in the compressed state via the retainer pin;
- and
- positioning a retainer ring within the bore to retain the packing assembly in the bore of the cylindrical body.
3 more elements
A method comprising:
- coupling a packing cartridge and a valve body;
- inserting a valve stem through a central bore of the packing cartridge;
- and
- removing a retainer pin from the packing cartridge to release a biasing element, the released biasing element to cause a packing assembly of the packing cartridge to frictionally engage the valve stem via the biasing element.
1 more element
A method comprising:
- providing a packing cartridge assembly including:
- obtaining a cylindrical body having an outer wall defining a central bore extending between a spring seat at a first end of the outer wall and an open end at a second end of the outer wall;
- inserting a spring within the open end of the outer wall;
- compressing the spring against the spring seat via a tool insertable within the open end of the outer wall;
- inserting a retainer pin within a slot formed on an outer surface of the outer wall, the slot positioned closer to the spring seat than the open end, the retainer pin to engage the spring and maintain the spring in a compressed state;
- positioning a packing assembly within the central bore, the retainer pin to prevent the spring from applying a load to the packing assembly;
- coupling the packing cartridge assembly to a valve body;
- causing a valve stem to pass through the central bore of the packing cartridge assembly and a packing stem aperture of the packing assembly;
- and
- removing the retainer pin to cause the spring to apply a load to the packing assembly.
