A method of protecting a person from drowning, the method including providing the person with a protection garment configured to cover at least a part of the person's body to protect the person during normal use, wherein the protection garment includes an inflatable chamber configured to provide buoyancy to support the person's body on water when inflated to prevent the person from drowning, and the method includes inflating the inflatable chamber on contact with the water, or when contact with water is expected, so that the buoyancy protects the person from drowning.
