A sound production method for a computer, wherein

• a sound production timing is a timing of producing a sound of a target note, the sound production timing being specified in a musical piece;
• an early press period is between an early time point and the sound production timing, the early time point being earlier than the sound production timing by a predetermined time;
• in a situation that a performance action is detected within the early press period, the computer causes a sound production unit to produce a sound corresponding to the performance action at the sound production timing;
• and
• in a situation that no performance action is detected within the early press period or at the sound production timing, the computer does not cause the sound production unit to produce a sound at the sound production timing.

A computer-readable storage medium storing a program for a computer, wherein

• a sound production timing is a timing of producing a sound of a target note, the sound production timing being specified in a musical piece;
• an early press period is between an early time point and the sound production timing, the early time point being earlier than the sound production timing by a predetermined time;
• in a situation that a performance action is detected within the early press period, the computer causes a sound production unit to produce a sound corresponding to the performance action at the sound production timing;
• and
• in a situation that no performance action is detected within the early press period or at the sound production timing, the computer does not cause the sound production unit to produce a sound at the sound production timing.
