Abstract
A direct anterior hip replacement trochanter securement apparatus including a trochanter engager, an implant connector configured to securely connect the trochanter engager to an implant in a femur, and a trochanter engager securer configured to securely hold part of the trochanter engager at a point along the femur below the trochanter.
Claims12
A direct anterior hip replacement trochanter securement apparatus comprising:
- a trochanter engager positionable on a trochanter of a femur of a person from an anterior position relative to the trochanter, wherein the trochanter engager includes:
- a trochanter gripper configured to engage each of a medial interior portion of the trochanter, a superior portion of the trochanter, and a lateral portion of the trochanter, the trochanter gripper including:
- a first tube defining a first internal suture passageway, the first tube having a first end and a second end, the first end including a first tooth engagable with an anterior portion of the trochanter, the second end including a second tooth engagable with a posterior portion of the trochanter,
- a second tube defining a second internal suture passageway, the second tube having a first end and a second end, the first end including a first tooth engagable with an anterior portion of the trochanter,
- the second end including a second tooth engagable with a posterior portion of the trochanter,
- the first end of the first tube and the first end of the second tube being spaced-apart a first distance,
- the second end of the first tube and the second end of the second tube being spaced-apart a second distance, the second distance being greater than the first distance,
- the first tube and the second tube defining a space therebetween for an abductor muscle attached to the trochanter,
- a connector that connects the first tube and the second tube adjacent to the first end of the first tube and adjacent to the first end of second tube,
- a first engagement arm connected to and extending outwardly from the first tube, the first engagement arm including a first tooth, and
- a second engagement arm connected to and extending outwardly from the second tube, the second engagement are including a first engagement arm including a second tooth;
- an implant connector configured to securely connect first portions of a first suture that is extendable through the first internal suture passageway of the first tube and a second suture that is extendable through the second internal suture passageway of the second tube to an implant in the femur;
- and
- a trochanter engager securer separate from the trochanter engager and positionable on the femur at a point along the femur below the trochanter without engaging the trochanter and configured to receive and securely be connected to second portions of the first suture and the second suture.
The direct anterior hip replacement trochanter securement apparatus of 4, wherein the trochanter engager securer includes a second cable receiver.
- a first tube defining a first internal suture passageway, the first tube having a first end and a second end, the first end including a first tooth engagable with an anterior portion of the trochanter, the second end including a second tooth engagable with a posterior portion of the trochanter,
- a second tube defining a second internal suture passageway, the second tube having a first end and a second end, the first end including a first tooth engagable with an anterior portion of the trochanter,
- the second end including a second tooth engagable with a posterior portion of the trochanter,
- the first end of the first tube and the first end of the second tube being spaced-apart a first distance,
- the second end of the first tube and the second end of the second tube being spaced-apart a second distance, the second distance being greater than the first distance,
- the first tube and the second tube defining a space therebetween for an abductor muscle attached to the trochanter,
- a connector that connects the first tube and the second tube adjacent to the first end of the first tube and adjacent to the first end of second tube,
- a first engagement arm connected to and extending outwardly from the first tube, the first engagement arm including a first tooth, and
- a second engagement arm connected to and extending outwardly from the second tube, the second engagement are including a first engagement arm including a second tooth.
