Abstract
The present disclosure provides regenerative sorbent membranes and membrane assemblies for direct air capture (DAC) systems for CO2 capture, wherein the sorbent membranes have a conductive film disposed thereon. The conductive film provides a means for direct heating of the sorbent membrane to desorb captured CO2 and regenerate the membrane. The conductive films are comprised of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and a polymeric binder. Methods of making a regenerative sorbent membrane for direct air capture systems are also disclosed.
Claims20
A regenerative sorbent membrane, comprising:
- a macroporous support layer;
- a mesoporous layer;
- a sorbent comprising a moiety with CO2 affinity;
- a conductive film layer;
- wherein the conductive film layer is configured to provide heat to the regenerative sorbent membrane for release of CO2 captured by the sorbent.
A regenerative sorbent membrane, comprising:
- an inner support layer;
- at least one sorbent layer having CO2 affinity, disposed on the inner support layer;
- at least one conductive film layer disposed on the at least one sorbent layer;
- wherein the at least one conductive film layer provides heat to the regenerative sorbent membrane for release of CO2 captured in the sorbent layer.
A regenerative membrane assembly for gas separation, comprising:
- a plurality of regenerative sorbent membranes, wherein each regenerative sorbent membrane comprises:
- an inner support layer;
- at least one sorbent layer having CO2 affinity, disposed on the inner support layer;
- at least one conductive film layer disposed on the at least one sorbent layer;
- wherein the at least one conductive film layer is configured to provide heat to the regenerative sorbent membrane for release of CO2 captured in the sorbent layer.
