Abstract
Techniques for incremental stack walking are disclosed, including: performing a stack walk of a runtime stack, at least by traversing the runtime stack from a current frame to a root frame, to obtain a set of stack walking results; storing a cache of the set of stack walking results; and installing, on the runtime stack, a marker frame that marks a boundary of stack frames represented by the set of stack walking results.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- encountering, while traversing a runtime stack during a second stack walk, a marker frame,
- wherein the marker frame marks a first boundary of stack frames represented by a first set of stack walking results, and
- wherein the first set of stack walking results is associated with a first stack walk that preceded the second stack walk;
- responsive to encountering the first marker frame, retrieving a first cache of the first set of stack walking results;
- completing the second stack walk without traversing at least one frame represented by the first set of stack walking results;
- wherein the method is performed by at least one device including a hardware processor.
A system comprising:
- at least one device comprising one or more hardware processors,
- the system being configured to perform operations comprising:
- encountering, while traversing a runtime stack during a second stack walk, a marker frame,
- wherein the marker frame marks a first boundary of stack frames represented by a first set of stack walking results, and
- wherein the first set of stack walking results is associated with a first stack walk that preceded the second stack walk;
- responsive to encountering the first marker frame, retrieving a first cache of the first set of stack walking results;
- completing the second stack walk without traversing at least one frame represented by the first set of stack walking results.
One or more non-transitory computer readable media comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more hardware processors, cause performance of operations comprising:
- encountering, while traversing a runtime stack during a second stack walk, a marker frame,
- wherein the marker frame marks a first boundary of stack frames represented by a first set of stack walking results, and
- wherein the first set of stack walking results is associated with a first stack walk that preceded the second stack walk;
- responsive to encountering the first marker frame, retrieving a first cache of the first set of stack walking results;
- completing the second stack walk without traversing at least one frame represented by the first set of stack walking results.
