Abstract
Apparatus and methods are described including advancing a guide wire into a left ventricle of a subject and guiding a pump head of a left-ventricular assist device to the subject's left ventricle over the guidewire. The pump head is disposed in a radially-constrained configuration within a delivery catheter during the guiding. When the pump head is disposed within the subject's left ventricle, the pump-head is released from within the delivery catheter, thereby causing an impeller of the pump head to automatically assume a non-radially-constrained configuration by the impeller self-expanding. Other applications are also described.
Claims20
An apparatus for use with a guidewire and a delivery catheter, the apparatus comprising:
- a left-ventricular assist device that defines a guidewire lumen and that comprises a pump head,
- the pump head being configured to be advanced to a subject's left ventricle over the guidewire, while the pump head is maintained in a radially-constrained configuration within the delivery catheter;
- the pump head comprising an impeller that is configured to automatically assume a non-radially-constrained configuration upon being released from the delivery catheter within the subject's left ventricle, by the impeller self-expanding.
A method comprising:
- advancing a guide wire into a left ventricle of a subject;
- guiding a pump head of a left-ventricular assist device to the subject's left ventricle over the guidewire, the pump head being disposed in a radially-constrained configuration within a delivery catheter during the guiding;
- and
- when the pump head is disposed within the subject's left ventricle, releasing the pump-head from within the delivery catheter, thereby causing an impeller of the pump head to automatically assume a non-radially-constrained configuration by the impeller self-expanding.
