Abstract
A computer-based surgical planning system determines locations of surgical instruments or implants relative to a coordinate system determined for a 2D or 3D model of at least a portion of a patient's anatomy. The planning system generates data, such as files or objects, from which holograms of the surgical instruments may be generated by a Mixed Reality (MR) or Augmented Reality (AR) device. The MR/AR device registers the patient's anatomy and anchors the holograms to the patient's anatomy relative to the coordinate system determined for the 2D or 3D model. The holograms include holograms of trajectories of screws for securing an implant to the patient's anatomy.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- a computer-based surgical planning system configured to:
- present a two-dimensional (2D) or a three-dimensional (3D) model of a patient's pelvis;
- define a coordinate system for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis;
- determine a location of one or more surgical tools relative to the coordinate system defined for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis;
- generate data from which a plurality of holograms may be produced of the 2D or 3D model of the portion of the patient's pelvis and the one or more surgical tools;
- a tracking device configured for attachment to the patient's pelvis;
- a mixed reality (MR) or augmented reality (AR) head-mounted device (HMD), the MR/AR-HMD including one or more projectors configured to present the plurality of holograms;
- and
- is a navigation system configured to (i) register the patient's pelvis based on recognizing and tracking the tracking device and (ii) direct the MR/AR-HMD to anchor the plurality of holograms in space relative to the patient's pelvis based on the coordinate system defined for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis, wherein one or more of the plurality of holograms indicate a planned trajectory of one or more bone screws for securing an implant to the patient's pelvis.
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- presenting on a display a two-dimensional (2D) or a three-dimensional (3D) model of a patient's pelvis;
- establishing a coordinate system for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis based on a model of a registration device as docked to the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis;
- determining trajectories of a plurality of bone screws for securing a cup component to an acetabulum of the patient's pelvis, the trajectories determined relative to the coordinate system established for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis;
- generating data for presenting holograms of the trajectories of the plurality of bone screws;
- and
- exporting the data to a mixed reality (MR) or augmented reality (AR) head-mounted device (HMD) for presenting the holograms of the trajectories of the plurality of bone screws by the MR/AR-HMD, the holograms of the trajectories of the plurality of bone screws anchored to the patient's pelvis based on the coordinate system established for the 2D or 3D model of the patient's pelvis.
