## Abstract

A decoding method for decoding blocks of a picture part is disclosed that comprises: decoding a plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters from a bitstream; decoding for a current block of said picture an index identifying one of the candidate sets of filter parameters from said bitstream; decoding said current block from said bitstream; and filtering said decoded current block with the candidate set of filter parameters identified by said decoded index.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
decoding a first information set for luma samples and a second information set for chroma samples, each information set containing a plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters;
obtaining for a current block of a picture part an information indicating with a first value that a single index identifies a first candidate set of filter parameters in the first information set and a second candidate set of filter parameters in the second information set and indicating with a second value that a first index identifies the first candidate set of filter parameters in the first information set and a second index identifies the second candidate set of filter parameters in the second information set;
decoding, for the current block, the single index or the first and second indexes based on the obtained information;
decoding said current block; and
filtering luma samples and chroma samples of said decoded current block with the candidate sets of filter parameters identified by the single index or by the first and second indexes.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said first and second information sets are associated with a block of said picture part decoded first in decoding order.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, comprising decoding a data representative of a number of candidate sets of filter parameters.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the candidate sets of each plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters are decoded in their order of use.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising re-ordering the candidate sets of filter parameters before filtering said current block.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the candidate sets of filter parameters are re-ordered such that each set of filter parameters used for filtering a block located immediately to the left of the current block is listed first.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the candidate sets of filter parameters are re-ordered such that the candidate sets of filter parameters used for filtering blocks decoded prior to the current block are listed in an order which depends on a spatial distance between said block decoded prior to the current block and the current block.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the candidate sets of filter parameters are re-ordered such that at least one candidate set of filter parameters not used for filtering blocks decoded prior to the current block is inserted before a last candidate set of filter parameters used for filtering said blocks decoded prior to the current block.

### Claim 9 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the candidate sets of filter parameters are re-ordered such that a candidate set of filter parameters not used by blocks decoded prior to the current block and that is the first candidate to be used next is inserted at a position that is function of the number of blocks of said picture part to decode after said current block and of the number of candidate sets of filter parameters not used yet by blocks decoded prior to the current block.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising inserting, in each plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters, a candidate set of filter parameters specifying that a block is not filtered.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the candidate set of filter parameters specifying that a block is not filtered is inserted between the candidate sets of filter parameters at a predefined position.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said first and second information sets is decoded from a slice header of a slice to which said current block belongs.

### Claim 13

A method comprising:
determining a reconstructed block corresponding a reconstructed version of a current block of a picture part;
obtaining a first plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters for luma samples and a second plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters for chroma samples;
encoding a first information set containing the first plurality and a second information set containing the second plurality;
encoding for the current block an information indicating with a first value that a single index is used to identify a first candidate set of filter parameters in the first information set and a second candidate set of filter parameters in the second information set and indicating with a second value that a first index is used to identify the first candidate set of filter parameters in the first information set and a second index is used to identify the second candidate set of filter parameters in the second information set;
filtering the luma samples and the chroma samples of said reconstructed block with the candidate sets of filter parameters identified by the single index or by the first and the second indexes in function of the encoded information; and
encoding data representative of the single index or of the first and the second indexes based on the encoded information.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein said information set is encoded in a slice header of a slice to which said current block belongs.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein said information set is associated with a block of said picture part encoded first in encoding order.
