## Abstract

A method includes receiving time-series data during operation of one or more equipment systems at a rigsite, and automatically segmenting partitions from the time-series data with respect to an individual pipe of a drillstring using separately and symbolically computed inferred equipment states and activity states. The partitions include an in slips partition for a time interval between setting slips and releasing the slips. The method further includes operating a controller to control one or more of the equipment systems based at least in part on one or more operational sequence times of the in slips partition.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
receiving time-series data during operation of one or more equipment systems at a rigsite, wherein the equipment systems comprise a drawworks system, a mud pump system, and a top drive system;
automatically segmenting partitions from the time-series data with respect to an individual pipe of a drillstring using separately and symbolically computed inferred equipment states and activity states, wherein the individual pipe is translatable via the drawworks system and rotatable via the top drive system, wherein the mud pump system is operative to pump mud through a number of pipes of the drillstring to a bottom hole assembly of the drillstring, wherein the bottom hole assembly comprises a drill bit that comprises mud ports, and wherein the partitions comprise an in slips partition for a time interval between setting slips and releasing the slips; and
operating a controller to control one or more of the equipment systems based at least in part on one or more operational sequence times of the in slips partition.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the in slips partition comprises an operation sequence time that corresponds to releasing the slips.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein operating the controller controls the mud pump system based at least in part on the operation sequence time that corresponds to releasing the slips to increase a mud flow rate to a specified flow rate.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, comprising acquiring pressure measurements during the increase of the mud flow rate to the specified flow rate.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, comprising, responsive to stabilization of the pressure measurements at the specified flow rate, further operating the controller to control the top drive system for rotating the drillstring.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the partitions comprise one or more of a going on bottom partition for contacting the drill bit of the drillstring with a bottom of a borehole and an on bottom rotary drilling partition for crushing rock with the drill bit to lengthen the borehole.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the partitions comprise a bottom to slips partition defined by a time interval between the drill bit coming off a bottom of a borehole and the setting slips.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the partitions comprise a slips to bottom partition defined by a time interval between the releasing the slips and setting weight on the drill bit.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein operating the controller controls the drawworks system to change a block position of a traveling block, wherein a top drive of the top drive system is attachable to the traveling block.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the in slips partition comprises an operational sequence time for increasing the block position of the traveling block.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the in slips partition comprises an operational sequence time for connecting a pipe to the drillstring.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the in slips partition comprises an operational sequence time for a pick up of the drillstring with the connected pipe using the drawworks system.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the in slips partition comprises an operational sequence time for disconnecting a pipe from the drillstring.
