Abstract
There are provided, inter alia, methods for decreasing mucus elasticity or decreasing mucus viscosity in a subject in need thereof, the methods including administering to the subject an effective amount of a dithiolsaccharide mucolytic agent, and compounds and pharmaceutical compositions useful for the methods.

A method of treating a condition selected from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma in a human subject, comprising administering to the lung of the human subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the structure:

A method of treating cystic fibrosis in a human subject, comprising administering to the lung of the human subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the structure:
- to treat the cystic fibrosis.
