A mixed-spectrum molten-salt reactor has a primary containment vessel. A reactor core is housed in the primary containment vessel, the reactor core has an atypical geometry that holds a fuel salt. A blanket region is formed within the primary containment vessel and surrounding the reactor core, the blanket region comprises a blanket salt.

A mixed-spectrum molten-salt reactor comprising:
- a primary containment vessel;
- a reactor core housed in the primary containment vessel, the reactor core that holds a fuel salt;
- and
- a blanket region within the primary containment vessel and surrounding the reactor core, the blanket region comprising a blanket salt.
