Robotic laundry devices and methods of use

A robotic system for spreading out and folding a laundry article, comprising:

• at least three lifters disposed about a perimeter of a surface, each one of the at least three lifters being configured to move at least one of independently of and in tandem with at least one other of the at least three lifters to at least one of releasably engage and spread out the laundry article above the surface,
• two or more sensors disposed at two or more fixed locations about the surface, each of the two or more sensors configured to detect the laundry article at least one of suspended above the surface and placed on the surface;
• and
• a controller in operative communication with the two or more sensors and the at least three lifters, the controller configured to:
• receive one or more output signals from one or more of the two or more sensors, determine whether the laundry article suspended by two of the at least three lifters is spread out, and
• instruct, based on a determination of the laundry article being spread out, one or more of the at least three lifters to fold the spread out laundry article one or more times.
