Abstract
Cable termination anomaly detection method, comprising: placing at least a temperature sensor near a cable termination having a cooling/insulating fluid so as to measure temperatures of a plurality of measuring points; measuring by said temperature sensor and at different measuring times a plurality of groups of temperature values. The method further comprises: acquiring the plurality of groups of temperature values and constructing an axial temperature distribution expressing a one-to-one correspondence between estimated temperature values obtained from the plurality of groups of temperature values and height values along a longitudinal axis of the cable termination.

Cable termination anomaly detection method, comprising:
- placing at least a temperature sensor near a cable termination having a cooling/insulating fluid so as to measure temperatures of a plurality of measuring points including measuring points distributed at different heights in a direction along a first axis of the cable termination;
- measuring by said temperature sensor, at different measuring times in a measuring time interval, a plurality of groups of temperature values, wherein each group represents temperatures of the plurality of measuring points in a corresponding measuring time;
- constructing an axial temperature distribution expressing a one-to-one correspondence between estimated temperature values obtained from the plurality of groups of temperature values and height values of the plurality of measuring points along the first axis;
- performing an average so that each estimated temperature value in the axial temperature distribution is a result of a time average, over said measuring time interval, of temperatures obtained from said plurality of groups of temperature values;
- computing at least one index based on portions of the axial temperature distribution having different height ranges;
- comparing said at least one index with a respective threshold value and detecting an operating condition of the cable termination based on a result of the comparing.
A cable termination anomaly detection system comprising:
- a cable termination comprising:
- an outer sheath extending along a first axis and a cooling or insulating fluid housed in said outer sheath;
- at least a temperature sensor placed near the cable termination and configured to measure temperatures of a plurality of measuring points including points distributed at different heights in a direction along the first axis of the cable termination;
- a processor connected to said at least one temperature sensor so as to acquire at different measuring times a plurality of groups of temperature values, wherein each group represents temperatures measured at the plurality of said measuring points in a corresponding measuring time over a measuring time interval;
- wherein said processor is configured to perform digital processing operations including:
- constructing an axial temperature distribution expressing a one-to-one correspondence between estimated temperature values obtained from the plurality of groups of temperature values and height values of the measuring points along the first axis;
- performing an average so that each estimated temperature value in the axial temperature distribution is a time average, over said measuring time interval, of temperatures obtained from said plurality of groups of temperature values;
- computing at least one index based on portions of the axial temperature distribution having different height ranges;
- comparing said at least one index with a respective threshold value and detecting at least one operating conditions of the cable termination based on the comparing.
A cable termination monitoring system, comprising:
- a cable termination comprising an outer sheath extending along a first axis and a cooling or insulating fluid housed in said outer sheath;
- a distributed temperature sensor comprising an optical waveguide and configured to measure temperatures of a plurality of measuring points distributed at different heights in a direction along the first axis,
- wherein said optical waveguide is placed around an outer or an inner layer of the outer sheath so as to form coils with an axial spacing, an axial resolution of the distributed temperature sensor related to said axial spacing.
