Roof system for a vehicle

A roof system for a vehicle having a roof opening in a fixed roof, comprising:

• a stationary part configured to be attached to the fixed roof;
• a first panel movably supported on the stationary part and configured to close the roof opening in its closed position and to be moved at least rearwardly to an opened position in which the roof opening is at least partly opened, the first panel having a front edge and a rear edge;
• a pair of guide rails extending in a longitudinal direction and configured to be substantially parallel to opposite lateral sides of the roof opening;
• an electric motor operably connected to first drive members;
• and
• an operating mechanism for the first panel, the operating mechanism being connected to and driven by the electric motor and the first drive members,
• wherein at least part of the operating mechanism is slidably supported on said guide rails, the operating mechanism comprising:
• a front mechanism configured to move the front edge of the first panel in a vertical direction and move at least a part of the operating mechanism in the guide rail in the longitudinal direction, the front mechanism including a panel bracket, attached to the first panel;
• a tilting mechanism configured to move the rear edge of the first panel in a vertical direction, the tilting mechanism including a slide claw in slidable contact with the panel bracket;
• and
• a locking mechanism configured to lock the tilting mechanism to the guide rail in order to keep the tilting mechanism stationary with regard to the guide rail to enable the first panel to slide with respect to the tilting mechanism, wherein the locking mechanism is slidably guided in the guide rail and is completely rearward of and remote from the tilting mechanism seen in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
