High-resolution codebook for distributed mimo transmission

A base station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the BS comprising:

• a controller;
• and
• a transceiver operably coupled with the controller, the transceiver configured to:
• transmit, to a user equipment (UE), first information configuring a channel state information (CSI) report, wherein the first information indicates a codebook type for the CSI report as a type II coherent transmission,
• transmit, to the UE, second information configuring a plurality of CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resource for the CSI report, and
• receive, from the UE, the CSI report including a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) identified based on a first vector and a second vector,
• wherein the first vector is for each CSI-RS resource of the plurality of CSI-RS resources, and
• wherein the second vector is common for the plurality of CSI-RS resources.

A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a base station (BS), first information configuring a channel state information (CSI) report, wherein the first information indicates a codebook type for the CSI report as a type II coherent transmission;
• receiving, from the BS, second information configuring a plurality of CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resource for the CSI report;
• identifying a first vector for each CSI-RS resource of the plurality of CSI-RS resources;
• identifying a second vector being common for the plurality of CSI-RS resources;
• and
• transmitting, to the BS, the CSI report including a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) identified based on the first vector and the second vector.
