Progressive image compression and syncing

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing executable instructions, which when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:

• obtaining image data;
• computing a prediction residue value for a pixel of the image data using a prediction function;
• computing an entropy value for the pixel based on the prediction residue value using context modeling;
• and
• generating progressive compressed image data for the image data based on the entropy value.

A method comprising:

• obtaining image data for an image at a first device;
• computing an entropy value for a pixel based on a prediction residue value of a prediction function;
• generating progressive compressed image data for the image data based on the entropy value;
• transmitting the progressive compressed image data to a second device;
• and
• presenting the image for display at the second device based on the progressive compressed image data.
