Abstract
A computing system and method for mapping a migration to a new distributed file system is provided. A method may include receiving file system metadata from an existing distributed file system, comparing permissions for each file and each user, generating a plurality of recommended groups, recommended folders, and recommended permissions, and presenting the recommended groups, recommended folders, and recommended permissions to a user.
Claims24
A computer-implemented method of mapping a migration to a new distributed file system (DFS), the method comprising:
- receiving, with one or more processors, file metadata for a plurality of files, user metadata for a plurality of users, and permissions from an existing DFS, wherein the permissions comprise rules regarding access rights of the plurality of users to the plurality of files;
- comparing, with the one or more processors, the file metadata for each file to generate file similarity scores, wherein the file similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared files;
- comparing, with the one or more processors, the user metadata for each user to generate user similarity scores, wherein the user similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared users;
- generating, with the one or more processors, an indication of recommended groups comprising a plurality of users having user similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generating, with the one or more processors, an indication of recommended folders comprising a plurality of files having file similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generating, with the one or more processors, an indication of recommended permissions comprising access rights of the recommended groups to the recommended folders;
- and
- transmitting to a user device, with the one or more processors, the indication of the recommended groups, the indication of the recommended folders, and the indication of the recommended permissions for presentation to a user associated with the user device.
A computer system for mapping a migration to a new distributed file system (DFS), the computer system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more memories having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause the system to:
- receive file metadata for a plurality of files, user metadata for a plurality of users, and permissions from an existing DFS, wherein the permissions comprise rules regarding access rights of the plurality of users to the plurality of files;
- compare the file metadata for each file to generate file similarity scores, wherein the file similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared files;
- compare the user metadata for each user to generate user similarity scores, wherein the user similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared users;
- generate an indication of recommended groups comprising a plurality of users having user similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generate an indication of recommended folders comprising a plurality of files having file similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generate an indication of recommended permissions comprising access rights of the recommended groups to the recommended folders;
- and
- transmit to a user device the indication of the recommended groups, the indication of the recommended folders, and the recommended permissions for presentation to a user associated with the user device.
A computer readable storage medium having stored thereon non-transitory computer readable instructions that when executed, cause a computer to:
- receive file metadata for a plurality of files, user metadata for a plurality of users, and permissions from an existing distributed file system (DFS), wherein the permissions comprise rules regarding access rights of the plurality of users to the plurality of files;
- compare the file metadata for each file to generate file similarity scores, wherein the file similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared files;
- compare the user metadata for each user to generate user similarity scores, wherein the user similarity scores identify a degree of similarity between compared users;
- generate an indication of recommended groups comprising a plurality of users having user similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generate an indication of recommended folders comprising a plurality of files having file similarity scores that exceed a specified threshold;
- generate an indication of recommended permissions comprising access rights of the recommended groups to the recommended folders;
- and
- transmit to a user device the indication of the recommended groups, the indication of the recommended folders, and the indication of the recommended permissions for presentation to a user associated with the user device.
