Electrodepositable coating composition including a phyllosilicate pigment and a dispersing agent

A method of making an electrodepositable coating composition, the method comprising the steps of (1) heating an unneutralized cationic salt forming group-containing, film-forming polymer to an elevated temperature;

• (2) adding a dispersing agent to the unneutralized cationic salt forming group-containing, film-forming polymer with agitation to form a mixture;
• (3) adding a phyllosilicate pigment to the mixture;
• and (4) dispersing the mixture of the cationic salt forming group-containing, film-forming polymer, the phyllosilicate pigment, and dispersing agent into an aqueous medium comprising water and a resin neutralizing acid with agitation, wherein cationic salt forming groups in the cationic salt forming group-containing, film-forming polymer are neutralized by the resin neutralizing acid to form a cationic salt group-containing, film forming polymer.
