Article processing apparatus, system and method therefor

A system for reading a radio-frequency identification tag, the system comprising:

• a lane comprising a plurality of antennas;
• an interrogator configured to prompt each of the plurality of antennas to transmit a prompt signal, the prompt signal being configured to prompt a tag to transmit a response signal;
• a controller coupled to the interrogator, the controller being configured to determine whether the tag is associated with the lane based on whether a response signal is received by each of the plurality of antennas.

A method for reading a radio-frequency identification tag, the method comprising:

• prompting each of a plurality of antennas to transmit a prompt signal using an interrogator;
• prompting a tag to transmit a response signal using the prompt signal;
• determining whether the tag is associated with a first of a plurality of lanes or a second of the plurality of lanes based on whether a response signal is received by each of the plurality of antennas using a controller coupled to the interrogator.

A method for reading a radio-frequency identification tag, the method comprising:

• prompting each of a plurality of antennas to transmit a prompt signal using an interrogator;
• prompting a tag to transmit a response signal using the prompt signal;
• determining whether the tag is associated with a lane based on whether a response signal is received by each of the plurality of antennas using a controller coupled to the interrogator.
