Abstract
An article includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface; and an optical element on the first surface of the substrate, the optical element comprising an optics region. The first surface of the substrate includes an outer region that extends a distance past the periphery of the optics region. A method of making the article and a method of singulating are also disclosed.
Claims21
An article, comprising:
- a substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface;
- and
- an optical element on the first surface of the substrate, the optical element comprising an optics region;
- wherein the first surface of the substrate includes an outer region that extends a distance past the periphery of the optics region.
The article of claim 10, wherein the sidewall is angled relative to a plane of the edge.
A method of making a plurality of articles on a substrate, comprising:
- depositing a layer for forming a plurality of optics regions on a first surface of a substrate, each of the optics regions corresponding to one of the plurality of articles;
- and
- thinning a portion of the layer to form thinned areas between the plurality of optics regions.
A method of singulating, comprising:
- thinning a portion of a layer to form thinned areas between a plurality of device regions on a substrate;
- and
- severing the substrate in the thinned areas to form singulated devices.
